Karl assumed the position of Head: Market Development and Sustainability in 2021. Throughout his career, Karl has held a series of positions in various organisations. Notably, he served as the Chief Executive for Sanlam Sky from 2017 to 2020, leaving a significant impact on the company. Prior to that, he assumed the role of CEO for Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) Durban from 2009 to 2017, where he played a pivotal role in overseeing the operations. Before his tenure at TPT, Karl held several key roles within Transnet, including Group Executive (Commercial) in Johannesburg from 2007 to 2009, and Head of Restructuring from 2005 to 2007. Additionally, he served as CEO for Transtel in Johannesburg from 2001 to 2005 and held the position of Deputy CEO for the same company from 1999 to 2001. Karl Socikwa's early career saw him take on crucial roles, including Group Company Secretary for Transnet in Johannesburg from 1997 to 1999 and General Counsel for Transtel in Johannesburg from 1995 to 1996. His legal expertise stems from his time as a Candidate Attorney and Admitted Attorney for Deneys Reitz Attorneys, where he diligently served in both Durban and Johannesburg between 1992 and 1994. His dedication and proficiency in the legal field led to him being admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 1994.
